3RD ANNUAL IMPACT MAKERS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, BRISBANE AUSTRALIA

In the past 3 years, I have been conducting research at the intersection of HIV and Disability within the Nigerian context. Despite challenges with COVID-19, I concluded data collection a few months ago and began analysing my data. It has been such a rewarding journey of unlearning, learning and relearning.

As part of the way of disseminating some of my initial findings, on Friday 15th July, 2022, I presented my research at the 3rd Annual Impact Makers International Conference in Brisbane Australia.

My presentation was titled β€œπ‘«π’π’–π’ƒπ’π’† 𝑾𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒅 π’ƒπ’π’…π’šβ€: 𝑨𝒅𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 π‘¨π’π’•π’Šπ’“π’†π’•π’“π’π’—π’Šπ’“π’‚π’ π‘»π’‰π’†π’“π’‚π’‘π’š (ART) π’‚π’Žπ’π’π’ˆ 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 π’˜π’Šπ’•π’‰ π’…π’Šπ’”π’‚π’ƒπ’Šπ’π’Šπ’•π’Šπ’†π’” π’π’Šπ’—π’Šπ’π’ˆ π’˜π’Šπ’•π’‰ 𝑯𝑰𝑽”.

My research which captured the lived experiences of Persons with disabilities living with HIV in Nigeria explored the barriers and enablers to ART adherence in six Nigerian states.

It was humbling to share their stories and also receive feedback from the audience on how I can make my work better.

As the Higher Degree Research (HDR) Representative for the QUT School of Public Health and Social Work and Chair of the 1st and 2nd Impact Makers International Conference, I supported the amazing committee this year in an advisory role to deliver this conference. It was amazing to see how professionally organised the conference was due to the hard work of the committee members. I congratulate the student and staff committee members for delivering such a powerful conference and giving us the opportunity to share our findings.

The day ended with a networking event where I got the opportunity to interact with other researchers and industry partners.

It was a rewarding experience for me. I look forward to more opportunities to share my findings and network with other researchers in this space.
