VOLUNTARY SERVICE OVERSEAS (VSO) – SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG) PROJECT.
The Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) were reinforced at the end of 2015, and that gave way for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The VSO-SDG project aimed to raise awareness about the SDG and encourage people to take ownership of the project and work towards its actualization.
The project activities/deliverables in the first phase involved conducting awareness sessions and also painting the SDG mural in secondary schools across the country.
Being a volunteer, I had the opportunity and privilege to partake in this life-changing project.
My coverage was in the following schools:
- St. John Bosco Secondary School (SJBSS), Doma
- Government College (GC), Doma
- Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Doma
- Federal Science Technical College (FSTC), Doma
The project built my capacity and gave me a deeper understanding of the SDGs. It was an opportunity to network with both staff and students, and of course, on a lighter note, I developed a painting skill.
I unlearned, learned, relearned.
It has become even clear to me that “Volunteers are not paid not because they are worthless but because they are priceless”
My name is Aaron Akpu Philip, I am a HUMAN, a VOLUNTEER and I am PRICELESS.
