The Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) got reinforced at the end of 2015 and that gave way for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The VSO-SDG project aimed to raise awareness about the SDG and encourage people to take ownership of the project and work towards its actualization.
The project activities/deliverables in the first phase involved conducting awareness sessions and also painting the SDG mural in secondary schools across the country.
Being a volunteer, I had the opportunity and privilege to partake in this life-changing project.
My coverage was in the following schools:
- St. John Bosco Secondary School (SJBSS), Doma
- Government College (GC), Doma
- Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Doma
- Federal Science Technical College (FSTC), Doma
The project built my capacity and gave me a deeper understanding of the SDGs. It was an opportunity to network with both staff and students and of course on a lighter note, I developed a painting skill.
I unlearned learned, relearned.
It has become even clear to me that “Volunteers are not paid not because they are worthless but because they are priceless”
My name is Aaron Akpu Philip, I am a HUMAN, a VOLUNTEER and I am PRICELESS.
